Back to School Beauty 2012- Part 1

Hey Guys!

It is that time…back to school season. Some people have already started school, others have classes beginning soon. Back to school was always a hard time for me. I didn’t mind school, but it meant the end of a free schedule and back to classes and homework. However, feeling and looking good can help make the transition easier. So, I want to recommend a few products I’ve been using recently that are great anytime of year, but also helpful for back to school time.

Today I want to talk about 3 skin, hair and mouth products I have used and would recommend. Tomorrow, I will talk about some makeup products I love for back to school.

First, check out the Tanda Pearl. A phenomenal teeth whitening system that will get your teeth brighter and whiter in minutes or days. This is perfect for fast results and a bright smile right before you go back to school,  if you’re just looking to make a great first impression or just want a brighter smile. :) It is enamel safe and easy to use. Whiten both the top and bottom teeth using blue light technology in one device. I have used several teeth whitening systems, and this is definitely the fastest, easiest to use, and  least sensitivity I’ve had with teeth whitening. The retail price of this system is $195.

The next item is a cool way to remember to wash your face. We all want clearer skin anytime of year and especially if you’re going back to school.  It’s the Clearasil® PerfectaWash™. The main feature of this is it’s automatic dispenser which gives you just the perfect amount that you need for your face to prevent overdrying.  It is a cool, innovative and pretty way to display your facewash on your bathroom sink. :) It is dermatologist tested and you can buy refills for the dispenser. The system comes with 2 face washes, Superfruit Splash and Soothing Plant Extracts. I saw this listed at $19.99 in Target. It may or may not be on sale on Amazon.com, it was when I checked! ;)

The last thing  I have to share with you is the Batiste Dry Shampoo in the scent blush.  I think dry shampoo is a must-have for everyone. Not only can you use it to liven up 2nd day hair, and get rid of oils. But, my favorite use for dry shampoo especially this one in blush is to use it to give my hair more volume. I spray it through my roots, rub it in,  and it instantly gives me volume. It also makes my hair smell nice. It’s a great way to make getting ready in the morning quicker! This retails for $7.99 and I found mine at ULTA.

The Soap and Paper Factory Hand Cream: Elegant Packaging Makes a Difference

Have you ever seen something and just wanted to buy it because of how pretty, or clever the packaging was?! Do you think packaging makes a difference on the sales of a product? …I am definitely someone who loves fancy , beautiful packaging.

Take for example, when you are buying a gift for someone. For me, if I had the choice between a hand cream that was in a plain white tube that cost the same as a hand cream in beautiful packaging, I would choose the fancy packaging to give as a gift. Why? Because it looks nicer. I also like to set things out in my home for when guests come over…

I recently discovered this company , “The Soap and Paper Factory” which makes natural handmade products. Their packaging is Beautiful! Just take a look for yourself…

This is definitely packaging done right! I love the prints and fancy colors. The Soap and Paper Factory makes all sort of natural handmade beauty and home products like candles, perfume, room diffusers, shea butter soaps and more.

July Wedding in Stillwater,MN and Eyelash Extensions Before and After

Hey Everyone!

I wanted to give you an inside look at my job. :) I absolutely feel blessed to do what I do, and work in the beauty industry. It’s fun! Here is a peek and my lashes and makeup work from last week.

This past weekend, I got the opportunity to do makeup for a beautiful bride and some of her fabulous friends and family in Stillwater, MN. I absolutely love doing makeup for such a special day!

The hotel room that we got the girls ready in was so adorable in downtown Stillwater. It had a very pretty vintage look with a picture window which was perfect for all of my makeup to be sprawled out across. Here are a few pictures of my  make up set up.

The following are some before and after photos of some beautiful silk eyelash extensions I applied last week. :)

Enjoy your week, everyone!! Make it the best ever.. :)

The Naked 2 Palette by Urban Decay

I did it. I bought the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette. I know what you’re thinking, “Lauren, don’t you have enough make-up already??.”  My simple answer to that is, YES. I do have enough makeup, but here’s how I justified my purchase of the Naked 2.

  1. I am a makeup artist- it is my job to have a wide arrange of colors and variety.
  2. It’s my job to use the latest and greatest. I do reviews on products, and I enjoy being familiar with the best of the best in beauty.
  3. This palette is convenient. Neutral colors all in one place. Great for bridal makeup, smokey eye, or neutral everyday look.
  4. I can use it day to day for myself, or for work.
  5. The colors are beautiful! And , it was inexpensive compared to buying single eye shadows.

Need I say more? I’ve always been a MAC girl..and have many MAC eye shadow palettes so I sort of feel like a trader crossing over and buying Urban Decay eye shadows but it’s nice to diversify. :)

Tell me your thoughts on the Naked 2 Palette by Urban Decay and if you have the original Naked Palette, which you like more??

So far, I am really impressed by the quality and color pay off from these shadows. :) I love all the neutrals and that it contains a matte bone color, great for highlighting and a matte black color, great for eyeliner or smoking out color.

Love,

Lauren

My Nail Polish Collection/Organization

Hey Everyone!

I have recently been nail polish obsessed. All of the fun bright colors of spring have inspired my nail designs. But, there is one little problem with a huge nail polish collection- storage and organization! For months now I have been trying to figure out how to organize my nail polish collection.

I wanted to find a spice rack or something like it for the wall, but instead I found clear shoe drawers at the Container Store. I got 5 clear drawers that you can stock on top of one another. I coordinated them by color. Here is a short video showing how I organize and store my nail polish collection.

Just to preface: This is years worth of nail polish as well as collections I’ve received to review. :)

If you have some cool ideas of how to store nail polish or more organizational tips, please leave your comments below.

Thanks!

Lauren

Walk on the Wild Side- Braids and Animal Print

What’s your favorite Spring trend this year? I have been seeing a lot of braids, neons and bright colors,  and animal print is always a trend for spring and summer. So what did I do? I combined three trends: braids, bright colors and animal print and spiced up my normal hair and nail routine.

Instead of the normal ponytail, I decided to create a ponytail, braid my ponytail and loosen it up for a different braided type of look. I was inspired by Katniss’ braids in the Hunger Games. She sports a variety of different braids in the new Hunger games movie.

For my nails,  I took one of my favorite bright colors of the season, orange, and KISS  leopard print nail decals and created this fun nail look.

The Importance of a Good Eye Shadow Base/Primer- My Favorite Choice!

To me- applying an eye shadow base before applying make up is like brushing your teeth. It’s absolutely necessary and NEEDS TO BE DONE!!

I am surprised at how many people never use eye shadow primers. A good primer makes all the difference in the world when you want to create a really beautiful professional looking eye look. It helps your eye make  up last longer, prevents it from creasing,

brings out the depth of the colors and makes your lid look more even and perfected.

My favorite is “Painterly” Paint Pot from MAC Cosmetics. This is something I really don’t go a day without. I have tried dozens of eye shadow primers and I’m still addicted to my Painterly.

Please watch my short video I made talking about this  WONDERFUL product!

Run don’t walk to get this for your lovely lids if you don’t have it already. If you’re going to a local MAC store (in the Twin Cities) , feel free to reach out to me for some other product recommendations and I can let the amazing girls that work there that you’re coming in. ;)
